Widely described as "Dungeons & Dragons 3.75", Pathfinder - from Paizo Publishing - served the needs of those who preferred D&D 3.X to D&D 4e )and who had a vast amount of resources for the former ruleset from third party publishers. This is why Pathfinder 1e is in the same section as Dungeons & Dragons 3.X here on RPG Resource, as apart from minor differences, resources for either ruleset can be used with the other.
